Sitting on the Sidelines in Today's Market Could Cost You in the Long-Run

3/1/2011

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. –Hindsight is 20/20, making it easy to be knowledgeable about something after it has happened. But, when it comes to real estate, it is important to assess current market conditions and act when opportunity is present. In the current market, homes are at the most affordable level in 40 years, there is a good selection of properties to choose from and mortgage rates remain historically low.  Back in 2005, would you have guessed that 2011 would have presented such an opportunity?

Given these facts, today’s market should motivate buyers. And, in fact, 67 percent of Americans believe that now is a good time to buy a house, according to a recent Gallup poll. Yet some would-be homebuyers remain “out of the game” and could miss the best real estate opportunity in generations.

“You can’t see the opportunity for what it is, until it’s too late,” said Jim Weichert, president and founder of Weichert, Realtors.  “Several years from now, we will look back at this period of time with a far better understanding of the opportunities that existed in this current market.”

While market conditions are ideal right now, it is not expected that the “perfect storm” of low rates and attractive home prices will last much longer. When these factors change, prospective homebuyers who don’t purchase a property now might wish they had taken action sooner.

First-time and trade-up buyers who have the means and the desire to buy now should think about the cost of buying the same home they are considering in the future. The risk is minimal and the upside quite favorable. In fact, today’s record affordability makes it such that buyers will save money on the monthly cost of their home loan, even if prices go down in the future.

Weichert has nearly 18,000 sales associates in approximately 500 company-owned and franchised sales offices in key markets throughout the U.S.  A family of full-service real estate and financial services companies, Weichert helps customers buy and sell both residential and commercial real estate, and streamlines the delivery of mortgages and home and title insurance.  For more information, Weichert's customer service center can be reached at 1-800-USA-SOLD or at Weichert's website, www.weichert.com.  Each Weichert franchised office is independently owned and operated.
